T. John Institute of Management & Science (TIMS) had organized “Matribhasha Diwas” (Mother Tongue Day) to promote the mother tongue and culture of the Nation in a prestigious manner on 21 February 2020. The students of TIMS participated in the observance of the day and various activities like elocution, essay writing and singing were organized to understand and explain the rich heritage of different languages.

International Mother Language Day (IMLD) will be celebrated as a worldwide annual observance of UNESCO to highlight the linguistic diversity of our country. International Mother Language Day is celebrated across the globe on 21st February to celebrate the linguistic diversity that exists in the world. UNESCO has identified over 7000 languages that are used (read, written and spoken) in different countries across the world and 21st February has been marked to celebrate this ‘Multilinguism’.

Dr. Shailesh G, Principal, TIMS graced the occasion along with faculty members of TIMS. Principal highlighted the importance of the day with a message to highlight the linguistic diversity of our country. Students and staff presented the importance of their mother tongue and the history of it though their speech. It is important to understand the diverse linguistic heritage of India to showcase its strength of how it has managed to house so many languages within the same geographic boundaries and used it as a tool to facilitate dialogue for conflict resolution. The day was concluded to protect the rich heritage of Matribhasha and spread it across posterity.
