A library is a treasure-house of knowledge. A well-stocked library is an asset to the college and Heart of academic institutions. The T John College Library was established in 1993 along with T John College. The Library has about 27,488+ books, 716 Bound volume issues.

Vision

T John College library aims to provide quality library services of global standards to its users.

T John College library ensures the preservation and transmission of society's knowledge, history and culture, and to provide user with free and open access to information for education, recreation and reference.

Mission

T John College library mission is to strengthen and enhance the teaching, research and service to the users.

The Libraries promote intellectual growth and creativity by developing collections, facilitating access to information resources, teaching the effective use of information resources and critical evaluation skills and offering research assistance.

1. Eligibility for the Library Membership

All Students, faculty members and administrative staff of the T John College are eligible to obtain Library membership.

2. How to become library Member?

  • Library Membership Form will be issued in the library and in the TJC office between the working hours.
  • Submit the membership form to the Librarian along with 2 stamp size photographs(UG students) and 3 stamp size photographs (PG students).
  • The newly joined faculty shall get the library cards on showing their appointment orders along with 3 stamp size photographs.

3. Circulation Policy

  • Borrowing facilities are given only to the member of the library against Borrower’s Ticket/card.
  • Three Books are issued to Faculty members for the period of one month.
  • Three Books are issued to students for the period of 7 days.
  • New Books can only be issued after technical processing has been completed.
  • Reference books, rare books, unbounded periodicals may not be issued generally except with the written permission of the librarian.
  • The members shall be allowed to refer books in the Library only after submitting their ID card to the Librarian. No faculty/student can take two books of the same title and author.
  • The librarian shall have the power to refuse the issue of a book to any member or he/she can recall any book without assigning any reason thereby.

4. Renewal of Issued Books

  • Documents borrowed should be presented physically for renewal.
  • Documents will be renewed only if there are no reservations.
  • In case of reserved document, same will be allotted to the borrower foremost in the reservation list.

5. Over Dues Charges

  • If books are not returned on due date, an overdue charge of 2.00 Rupees cost per day will be charged.
  • All members should return the books borrowed from the library before they proceed on a long period of leave. Borrowers will be held responsible for any damage or mutilation of the document noticed at the time of returning.
  • Members should return all the library books and cards while taking no due certificate from library.
  • If a member does not pay the library dues, the privilege of borrowing books may be suspended till he/she pays the requisite amount.

6. Loss of Books /Damage

In case any book is lost /damaged by the member, the member shall replace the book or pay the double the cost of the lost book with Rs. 50/- processing fees. If one book lost in the volumes of the set, the reader has to replace the whole set.

7. LOSS OF TICKETS

The members are responsible for the Borrower’s Cards issued to them. In case of loss of Borrower’s Card, the borrower must report immediately to the Librarian. The user must pay Rs.40/-for each duplicate Borrower’s ticket.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • Every person who enters the library should sign the gate register in token of his/her acceptance to adhere to the rules of the library. No personal belongings shall be allowed except for papers and notebooks.
  • The readers should maintain silence within the library premises.No reader is allowed to sleep in the library premises.
  • Eating/loud conversation/chewing and similar objectionable acts are not allowed and are strictly prohibited in the library.
  • It is in the interest of the borrower to verify at the time of borrowing, whether the document is in good condition or not, and report damage/mutilation if any, to the library staff.
  • The Library staff are authorized to check any user for documents brought into or taken out of the Library. Readers must aware and adhere of Plagiarism, Photocopy right act 1957 towards duplicating any reading materials of Library either in full or portion.
  • Healthy suggestions, feedback are acceptable on library services and resources for further improvements.

TJC Library contains numerous collections for providing better service to students, faculties these materials are selected on the basis of informational, educational, cultural, and recreational value. These materials are selected in compliance with the mission and goals of the Institute and library as well.

  • Digital Library Service: Digital library with an excellent infrastructure has been setup at the Library and Information Centre. Online access to the e-resource like J-Gate, DELNET, NDL etc.
  • Book Bank Service: The eligible students may submit application to get extra 3 books for the semester in the circulation section.
  • User Awareness Programme: Library provides an orientation to new students in the beginning of academic year, on the other hand any user desiring to know more about library resources and service or to learn how to use a particular resource like OPAC, e-journals, databases etc. are given training from library staff.
  • Automated Circulation System: Library is fully automated with Libsys software. It is hosted in the server and maintained by in-house experts. The entire collection is bar-coded.
  • CD-Rom service: Our CDs accompanied with purchased books and journals, some complementary CDs, and Magazines’ CDs and DVDs. CDs will be provided to refer through library systems.
  • Reference Service: The Library maintains a separate reference collection consisting of encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, handbooks, atlases, etc. The Reference Section facility is extended to the students, staff and faculty of the Institute from 08.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Readers may approach the Reference Desk for any information, assistance or query.
  • OPAC: The main features of the OPAC are to check the availability of books, Find loan periods, Renew, or place. To verify your library account for what is checked out and when books are due.
