The Basic Science department at TJIT was established in 2012.
The department offers 4-year B.E program (8 semesters) in Civil Engineering which is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
The department currently has an intake of 60 students.
To excel in training undergraduate students to become successful civil engineers of high ethics and to encourage involvement of students and faculty in research and community service.
To provide high quality technical education and soft skills training to students for a successful career in civil engineering and to provide service to the university,engineering profession and the public.To provide challenging, yet supportive and welcoming environment, that motivates students and faculty to achieve their best in a diverse community.
Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design,construction and maintenance of the physically built structures like bridges, roads, canals, dams and buildings etc. and also it will take care of naturally built environment.
Civil engineering is the oldest engineering discipline and it has several sub-disciplines including environmental engineering,
geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, water resources engineering, materials engineering, coastal engineering,surveying, and construction engineering.
Civil engineering is the broadest of the engineering fields. Civil engineers build the world’s infrastructure. It is an age-old profession and has been defined traditionally as a great art, on which the wealth and the well-being of the whole of society depend.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The department aims to teach students by laying a strong foundation through courses on Surveying, Building Materials, Construction Technology,Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulics, Water Resources and Irrigation Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Environmental Engineering etc.
Each staff prepares a lesson plan and maintains a class diary that is uploaded into MIS software. Students as well as parents have complete access to the course file for the subject they handle.Course file includes syllabus, class plan, lesson plan, question bank, labmanuals, assignments and notes.
a. The calendar for various curriculum activities is prepared before thecommencement of the academic year.
b. Weak and slow learners are identified after each evaluation. These students are counseled by a team of faculty members.
c. Guest lectures by experts are arranged in different areas of interest.
d. The students are encouraged to actively participate in co-curricular activities like seminars.
e. The department aims to produce civil engineers to work with respectable responsibilities.
The Institute and Department are well connected through a campus Wi- Fi Network and have an access to an internet at data rate of 8Mbps [1:2 ratios].
