The Basic Science department at TJIT was established in 2009 affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Department Profile:

The department of Basic Science provides students exposure in disciplines such as

  • Engineering Mathematics
  • Engineering Physics
  • Engineering Chemistry

 

Engineering Mathematics:

Engineering Mathematics is considered as basis for all branches of engineering as it encompasses theoretical principles underlying many real time applications. It is a key subject that plays a crucial role in every engineering domain. It is in fact the art of applying mathematics to complex real-world problems. It combines mathematical theory, practical engineering and scientific computing to address today’s technological challenges. Proper knowledge and practice in mathematics enhance the reasoning capabilities, creative and spatial thinking to a big extent. Having adequate exposure in mathematics helps engineers to devise meaningful designs and blueprints with high precision that would prove to be a perfect foundation for complex structures and numerous other applications including computing and research.

A strong foundation in Mathematics at entry level enables an Engineering student has a fruitful academic career at lateral levels and subsequently makes a correct choice for his / her professional arena.

The subjects that are handled as a part of regular engineering curriculum are Engineering Mathematics, Probability and Statistics, Quantitative techniques and Research methodology. Also, the team members are actively involved in training the students for placements and other competitive exams.

Engineering Chemistry:

Department of Chemistry offers Engineering Chemistry cater the needs of all Engineering Branches in matters relating to Chemistry at the first year level. The Department has well qualified, experienced and highly motivated faculty members. Department facilitated with well equipped laboratories for academic and research purpose.

Chemistry helps engineers create processes that are environmentally friendly or more profitable and more efficient. With the help of chemistry, engineers create materials and techniques essential in fields such as fuel cell, nanotechnology and bio-engineering.

The Chemistry department is a Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) recognized Research center since 2012 and so far two candidates pursuing their Ph.D degree. All the staff members in the department have been actively engaged in the research programmes and published about 35 research papers in various National and International Journals. Department faculties got ‘Best project and project of the year award’ for collaborative research with Mechanical and Civil engineering department.

Engineering Physics:

Science and technology plays a pivotal role in everyones lives and touches almost every aspect of our existence. The impact of physics in modern society is most clearly reflected by our reliance on technology. Many of the technologies that are swiftly transforming our world can be directly traced back to important advances in physics.

The Department of Physics is dedicated to providing a variety of physics and engineering curricula for students who are interested in pursuing scientific and technical professions. Engineering physics covers a wide array of specialty topics such as Optics, Quantum Physics, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, Solid-State Physics etc. The discipline is also meant for cross-functionality and bridges the gap between theoretical science and practical engineering with emphasis in research and development, design, and analysis.

Our contribution to the College in setting high academic standards is recognized. We cater to the holistic development of students through counseling sessions, seminars, personality development programs and a host of other activities.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

The objective of the department is to build a strong foundation in Mathematics, Sciences and   so that these skills can be applied effectively in technological environment.

  • To facilitate the faculty to enhance their knowledge & skills, the required internet accessibility is provided.
  • To encourage teachers to actively take part in arranging National and International level workshops, seminars and conferences.
  • To provide practical exposure to the students through modern laboratories with continuous upgradation..
  • To create technical awareness among the students through special lectures from eminent resource persons, industrial visits and in plant training.
  • Improve the faculty performance through continuous education, organizing and participating in seminars, workshops, faculty development programs, national and international conferences.
  • Motivate both faculty and students to undertake research works and develop products through Industry and Institution co-operation.
  • Encourage final year students to get there projects sponsored by KSCST (Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology)
