The Department of Hotel Management as a part of the Intercollegiate Fest “Prakruthi” conducted a one day symposium. The symposium was inaugurated by two distinguished guest speakers Chef. Vijaya Bhaskar, Executive Chef, Le Meridian and Mr. Sandipan Das Gupta, Group Training Manager, Chancerypavilion Hotel in the eminent presence of Campus Director, Wing Commander(Rtd) David Yohan, Dr.Seema Goel, Principal, T.John College, Mrs. Shikha Tiwari, Vice Principal, T.John College and Mr. Philip Machado, Director, Department of Hotel Management.

Dr.Seema Goel during the welcome address recounted that the art of hospitality is deeply rooted in the culture and heritage of India. She also stated that hotel industry is one of the fastest growing industries employing a huge man power as service is the buzz word of today in all sectors. Also she stressed the fact that globalization and modernization have given a new impetus to the hotel industry. Campus Director, Wing Commander (Rtd) David Yohan gave an inspiring address quoting lively anecdotes from his personal experiences. He called that Hospitality industry is a fascinating profession which teaches a lot of values for life. Mr. Philip Machado, Director, Department of Hotel Management proposed the vote of thanks.

The first distinguished speaker of the day, Chef. Vijaya Bhaskar, Executive Chef, Le Meridian spoke on “Other Skills of Chef”. He emphasized the students to improve their knowledge, skills and develop a passion towards their profession. He also stressed that chefs can also turn into entrepreneurs by widening their business skills, and administration skills apart from their chef’s skills. The next reputed speaker of the day Mr. J.P.Menon, General Manager, St. Marks conducted an interactive session on “Present Hospitality Scenario in Bangalore”. He kept the participants captivated with his lively talk, touching on the various career opportunities in the diverse sectors of the service industry. The final speaker of the day was Mr. Sandipan Das Gupta, Group Training Manager, Chancerypavilion Hotel who delivered an interesting talk on “Career in Hospitality Industry”. He related the diversified aspects of hotel industry and referred to the boom in the hospitality and service industry which the direct outcome in the growth of tourism and other related fields.
