Workshop on Data Science

On September 27th 2017, Department of Information Science has organized workshop on “DATA SCIENCE” . The lecture highlighted, History of Data Science, What is Data Science? How the analysis of data can be done, by Mr. Vivek, who is associated with Pro Edge.
The term "data science" (originally used interchangeably with "datalogy") has existed for over thirty years and was used initially as a substitute for computer science by Peter Naur in 1960. Data science, also known as data-driven science, is an interdisciplinary field about scientific methods, processes, and systems to extract knowledge or insights from data in various forms, either structured or unstructured, similar to data mining. Data science is a "concept to unify statistics, data analysis and their related methods" in order to "understand and analyze actual phenomena" with data. It employs techniques and theories drawn from many fields within the broad areas of mathematics, statistics, information science, and computer science, in particular from the sub domains of machine learning, classification, cluster analysis, data mining, databases, and visualization.
Students got the insight of roles of data science, its process, data growth with drastic changes over a period of time, how to segregate the unstructured & structured data , Power of visualization and predictive analytics with various tools like Heat map. Pictorial representation of data using Pie_charts, Bar_charts and etc..
The session was conducted for all the three semester students of Information Science & engineering Department.
