First and Third Year students of BA (JEP) course at T. John College visited Radio Active CR (90.4 MHz) radio station

On the 3rd of August, First and Third Year students of BA (JEP) course at T. John College visited Radio Active CR (90.4 MHz) radio station, situated at Jain University Campus, Palace Road. Radio Active is an urban community radio station, licensed to Jain Group of Institutions (JGI). It was launched in 2007, and has over the years catered to diverse heterogeneous and marginalised communities in the society. The motto reads, “Voice for the Voiceless”.

Ms. ShilokMukkati greeted the students to a warm introduction to all the areas of interest and social causes that the community radio sees its existence in, at urban Bangalore. Along with Ms. Mukkati, students of TJC were also engaged with interaction from Ms. Beula Anthony. The sessions began with the basics of a community radio, and moved into more details with the visit to the radio’s recording studios. They were given a tour of each stages of process involved in making radio content at the station, from the editing of the raw content, the work at the mixer to the transmission occurring near the transmitter, etc.

Students got a first-hand look at the RJs at work at the station. They also had the honour to meet Ms. Priyanka Divaakar R, who is the first transgender Radio Jockey in the country. The students were accompanied by Ms. Pavithra R. and Uma Gopal, Asst. Professors at the Department of BA(JEP) at T. John College.
