On 28th and 29th September 2016, Guest lectures was held in T John college for the BA(JEP) students. The guest lecture was taken up by Ms. Ritu Sharma, Assistant Professor, BBM department. She took up the class by teaching the students statistics which is a part of psychology practical. The students had a great class as the subject was thought to them in a very clear and easy method.
The Literary Club ‘SPARK’ of T.John College organised intercollegiate competitions as part of the ‘Hindi Saptha’ on 16th September 2016. The event had different colleges coming in and participating in the competitions. The main events held were Hindi Debate, Hindi Dumb Charades and Hindi Essay Writing. The program started at 10:30 am at BHM seminar hall.
On the 7th of September, the Dept. of Languages invited Alumnus Akshay Sidharth to conduct a seminar on the Production Phases of Film-Making. Mr. Akshay Sidharth is a 2015 BA (JEP) graduate of T. John College, and has recently concluded his P.G. studies from Christ University. He is now headed to the city of dreams, Mumbai, to pursue his interest and career in Film-Making. Students found it extremely inspiring and educative.
On the 6th of September, 2016 – The Dept. of Languages hosted Mr. G. V. Somashekhar at T. John College premises. Students from III and V semesters of BA(JEP) course were invited to the talk by him. Mr. Somashekhar is designated as one of Bangalore’s most senior Recording Engineer & Studio consultant. Based in Bangalore, he also balances roles as visiting faculty in some of the city’s premier institutions in Media and Communication.
Competent staff, friendly security personnel, spacious sound-proof studios, expert ‘tech’ support, lively RJs, no nonsense news-readers, knowledgeable script writers – summarises the experience of BA(JEP) III & V semester students’ visit to the All India Radio studio located at Raj Bhavan Road, Bengaluru, this 22nd July. The students were accompanied by Ms. Uma Gopal, Asst. Prof. Bovina Sunath, and Asst. Prof. Pavithra R. AIR Bengaluru control room engineer Ms. Hemanjali Ojha was a delightful and captivating host as she took us on an engaging tour of the AIR studios.
The students of BA department T.John college were taken to Cadbam’s institute on 12th July 2016. The institute is located on Kanakpura Road, Bangalore. It is a group of psychological rehabilitation center. When the students arrived at the venue they were taken to Anunitha a chemical the addiction center.
On the 4th of June 2016, T. Johnites got the opportunity to spend the Saturday at a Workshop held at NIMHANS Centre for Well-Being (NCWB) here, in Bengaluru. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Seema Mehotra and, Dr.Jyothsana. It was a part of workshops in their Personal Growth Series, called “Managing Anger – Feeling Calmer. The workshop was timed at 9:30 to 16:30.
On the 10th of March, 2016, students of the BA (JEP) course visited a rehabilitation centre as a part of their curricular under studies of Psychology. The trip was organized and headed by Asst. Prof Pavithra.R from the Psychology Department. The name of the centre is ‘Chemical Addiction Rehabilitation Education, abbreviated to ‘CARE’ and is located at Hulimavu, Bangalore. It’s a privately owned body under a trust. ‘CARE’ was instituted in the year 1998, and had since catered to needs of the sects of society who have been downtrodden due to substance and chemical abuse.
St. Claret’s College, Jalahalli, Bengaluru conducted a national level one day conference for students of B. A. Optional English and M. A. [English] on 22nd February, 2016. The theme for the conference was “Texts-Co-Texts-Pre Texts and Contexts –Making Connections”. The students of 4th semester and 6th semester BA-JEP represented T. John College at the conference. The inaugural session was followed by the keynote address of Dr. Prakrithi H. N. [HoD of P.G Studies (English), Jain University] after which the paper presentations were conducted. Anjali P. Perumayan of 4th semester BA–JEP presented her paper on “A Feminist Analysis of John Donne’s Selected Poems” which was written on the basis of the research conducted under the guidance of Dr. Panchali Mukherjee [HoD of Languages, T. John College]. The conference was a platform for the students to learn about a variety of research being done in the field of English literature and also about the research methodology related to the field.
A national conference on emerging trends and fields in psychology was conducted by SDM College in Ujjire dharmasthala, Karnataka. The conference was held on 18th 19th 20th of February. Ms. Pavithra.R Asst. professor in psychology and Ms. Raksha.B, 2nd semester BA student represented T.John College at the conference. Many eminent speakers were present at the conference all the three days. Research papers were presented by students, professors and research scholars. Ms Pavitra. R presented her paper titled ‘A study on personality types and to know the reason for choosing sectors among government and private employees ‘. Ms. Raksha.B and Ms.Pavithra R presented her paper titled ‘An exploratory study on the concept of Moksha and self from Advaita Vedanta and western Philosophy.’ This paper won the best paper award in the conference. Other competitions were also held and the conference ended with a valedictory ceremony.
