Workshop on Downs Syndrome

5 students of I sem M.Sc. Biotechnology – Mr Shaheer, Mr Shuhaib, Mr Sandeep, Mr Manoj and Mr Sonal attended a workshop on `50 years of Downs Syndrome ‘- Cytogenetics, Clinical Management and New Research’ organized by Center for Human Genetics at NIAS Auditorium, IISc from 12-14 Nov 2010. The seminar highlighted the various issues pertaining to Down’s Syndrome. Former Lokayukta of Karnataka Justice Venkatachalaiah spoke about the legal and social aspects, Dr Vidyanand Najundaiah spoek about the molecular consequences of gene dosage imbalance. There were talks by various international scientists on gene therapy and various ways of treating genetic disorders. There were also interactions with parents of children with Down’s Syndrome.
