Concern has been growing regarding new drug resistant microorganisms – "Superbugs". In order to create awareness among students about superbugs, T. John College had organized a Guest Lecture on "Drug Resistance Microorganism – Concern and Remedies" on May 12, 2011. PG Students of Biotechnology and Management participated in the seminar.

Chief Guest -Dr. Ravi Kumar, Head, Neuromicrobiology, NIMHANS, Bangalore spoke about origin of superbugs, root causes, symptoms, limited treatment available, spread of superbugs and preventive measures to be followed. He explained about few superbugs like MRSA, MDR & XDR TB, and NDM-1. He insisted on hand washing and hygiene practice to wipe the superbugs out of our life. It was followed by a question and answer session which turned out very interactive and informative.

In post lunch session, four students of M.Sc BT II Sem (Tiffany Percy Fernandes, Jeneta Alan, Vandana Govindan and Snehal Deshmukh) presented a talk on superbugs. The seminar was highly eye opening for younger generation.
