9th to 12th February 13, 2012 was important dates in the history of our T. John College NSS Unit, as our NSS volunteers participated in the Oxfam Trailwalkers Fundraising event held near Bangalore. The event, with the real cause and a unique way of Fund raising, to eleminate poverty.

Oxfam Trailwalker is an International NGO, who have conducted similar Fundraising event in different countries – Cannada, Austrailia, UK, etc. The event encapsuled with a good cause is gilted by expression of courage, strength and dedication. About 150 teams of 4 trailwalkers, participated in the Trailwalk from Sangama (Mekedaatu) to Bidadi covering about 100 km walk. Our NSS volunteers helped the walkers in different areas assisting them for their well being, motivating them, keeping the walkers in the right spirits by cheering them and providing them with proper directous them. Medical assistance by the medical team from the famous Manipal hospital needs to be noted for such an important event.

The enthusiasm of our NSS volunteers is beyond leaps and bounds, some of them dedicated more than 24 hours to even 36 hours of service, without even sleeping and neglecting the hostile cool climate of the woods. All of our volunteers now have a bunch of new friends, association with corporates and have cherished the real meaning of service and the joy of serving others.

The event, was highlighted by the presence of Rahul Bose, celebrity from Bollywood and many foreign guests,who participated giving more meaning and making the event more successful. The whole episode was a lesson learnt: "How to render service at an International level, and shooting up to new high".
