Seminar at T. John College
Seminar sessions have been started in TJC as a part of Faculty Development Programme. There was a seminar conducted by Ms. Panchali Mukherjee on 14th January 2012. The topic of discussion was 1857 First War of Independence/Sepoy Mutiny: Historical Perspectives. The speaker had presented some of the major historical incidents regarding that remarkable year 1857 applying New Historical point of views. The presentation was based on audio visual aids that have made it more interesting for the audience. The core point of the discussion was that history is always found colored with subjective notions of the author and that has led to controversial aspects sometimes with the change of perspectives with the passage of time. There are only a few historians who mange to be neutral while narrating historical events. There is a need to obtain an unbiased notion while studying history to get better understanding of it. It can be derived by looking at history from different angles. The seminar was followed by an interactive session that had shown the active interest on the part of audience.
