Dr J.B.Mithili, Indian Institute of Horticulture Research (IIHR), delivered a guest lecture on the topic ‘Geneticallly Modified Plants : Applications and Biosafety issues’ to B.Sc. and M.Sc. students and faculty on 6 September, 2010 in the BHM Seminar Hall.

She began her talk with an overview on the various ways to insert foreign genes into crop plants. She then discussed the applications of such genetic modification and some of the success stories in this field. She highlighted the global scenario of GM crops and also discussed the Indian context. She also spoke about the various concerns voiced by environmentalists and elaborated on the measures taken by GM scientists to address these concerns.
